Honey of the Sun by NightsongWS Honey of the Sun by NightsongWS
Made for the RuntimeDNA Monthly Challenge "ROY: Warm Color Challenge" for November 2011. My color for this challenge was yellow, although we were allowed up to 5% in contrasting hues.

ROY Challenge, Yellow: Honey of the Sun

If ever there could be said to be a time when an artist fought with their image, this would be the time. I love little details, so I kept adding more in: flowers, jewelry, hair, chains, falling petals, you name it! But, no matter how many I added, she always looked better without them. I can't even begin to count the number of items that got put in this image and hidden, eventually deleted! Argh!

So, this image was a lesson in "Less is more." Dryads are evidently simple creatures with simple desires, and it was all I could do to talk her into a couple of extra flowers for her hair. Those worked out, though, and eventually a few more flowers, a few more vines, worked their way into the image.

As this was the Genesis figure, that had its own headache when it came to adding in clothes. I'm finding that for simple clothing, comprising only a few body parts (such as her corset or sleeves) it is easiest to simply parent the clothing to the chest or hip and pose it by hand to match the underlying figure. Still, extra morphs and magnets are helpful. I'm finding Tamesis to be best aided by Aiko 4 and Elite/Sylph morphs, as her build is very slender but unmistakably feminine. I will let you decide how well this turned out.

More on my Genesis experiments here:

The largest challenge in this image, however, had to be the color. It's tough to make an image in just one color! I knew that I could've just rendered it in black and white and then colored it, but I wanted some subtle variation in there. Color is not a static value, but a range. Yellows can be very slightly green or orange, depending upon the amount of blue and red.

I think I've stared at this one long enough now that I've completely lost perspective. What do y'all think?

Software: D|S 4, D|S CR2 Exporter, Poser Pro 2012, Photoshop.

Products: Genesis, Tamesis for Genesis (morphs), Tamesis for V4 (skin), Keryka Hair (magnet'd back off the shoulder), Elfin for V4, Lisa's Botanicals Sunflower, Ron's Vines, Ron's Angel Dust, Ron's Wings of Water (I think... I hope! Hydro Explosion?), Medusa (sleeves), CP Bees, Jepe's Flamez (recolored with an HSV node), Jepe's Throwz, Render Studio, IDL Studio, Spectacular for IDL Studio.

So.... yellow...

Okay first off I want to say....ehem...
freaken genius!!!

the reason why you got five stars on vision:

the picture is just eye boggling, the way you designed the hair and riddled it with flowers. and even how the pollen is dancing off of the giant flower! Personally I feel you did perfect on the Yellow. more yellow and it would be too much and it would have looked a little off. So that is just perfect. I love how you even have a yellow photo filter on this pic to making the entire pic match the character and make her beautiful eyes stand out!

Originality:

I gave you five stars for originality simply for the fact that I have seen people try to create sunflower people... but nothing like this. this is definitively doing it right!

The Technique:

This goes back to how you did the yellow photo filter feature on the character and the surroundings as well as the flowers in the hair. and I love how you added the bees in the picture as well and your technique is absolutely amazing! and I would give it ten stars if I could.

Impact:
Lets just say; when I saw this picture, I dropped everything I had in my hands and sat there for 5 minutes staring before I actually began to post. great work and keep it up! I definitely want to see more by you!

This piece is simply stunning! I'm not much for yellow, but WOUW. xD I love her eyes, the contradicting colors work so well. Why did I ever think that throughly saturated contradicting colors wouldn't work together??
Marvelous! :)

This is really nice. I like how it still looks almost hyper-realistic despite the color scheme. Wonderful work! ^.^
